| The Specialty Films Division of Madico Inc. announced it was awarded US Patent No. 7,579,083, entitled Bright White Protective Laminates, by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent covers the use of laminate backsheets for photovoltaic (PV) modules that incorporate, among other features, cost-effective thermoplastic EVA along with white pigment and/or fluorescent agents. Incorporating EVA into PV backsheets has been proven to improve dielectric properties and adhesion to the encapsulant. EVA compounded with white pigments and/or fluorescent agents allows for the power boost. Madico’s Bright White backsheets increase solar module power by up to five percent, deliver more uniform electrical properties, improve insulation and enhance unit durability. Madico also has a patent pending for its for its revolutionary Protekt® technology, which is differentiated by a proven, durable fluoropolymer coating that is unencumbered by supply chain constraints. Protekt®-based backsheets incorporate green technology and lean process that produce sustainable products. “Earning this patent validates not only Madico’s high performance Bright White technology, but also our entire family of eco-friendly backsheets,” said Madico Specialty Films Sales Manager Frank Mannarino. “We are committed to continuing to pioneer new and sustainable approaches to backsheet design, and we strive to lead the industry in price, performance and, of course, environmental responsibility.” Madico recognizes the value of the invention and is committed to protecting its patent rights.“Bright White is a highly differentiated product in a largely commoditized industry.
